Human Rights Lawyer Amal Clooney To Lecture At Columbia University

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) – Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney will join the faculty of Columbia University as a visiting lecturer.

Columbia announced Friday that Clooney will lecture on human rights this spring. She will also serve as a senior fellow with the law school’s Human Rights Institute.

Clooney served as a senior adviser to Kofi Annan when he was the U.N.’s envoy on Syria.

She also represented WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in extradition proceedings.

Professor Sarah H. Cleveland, co-director of the Human Rights Institute, said Clooney’s “extensive experience” will enrich the experience of Columbia’s students.

Hearts around the world broke as Clooney married movie star George Clooney in September.

The couple are based in London but George Clooney is filming “Money Monster” in New York this spring.

Jodie Foster is directing the movie and Julia Roberts co-stars.
